PowerProbe Introduction

PowerProbe Direct Push Technology For Environmental, Remedial, and Geotechnical Site Investigations/Activities

PowerProbe Direct Push Rigs have gained widespread acceptance in many drilling applications, due to their versatility, relatively low cost, and ease of mobility. The PowerProbe allows for a wide variety of Direct Push Tooling and instrumentation to be advanced into a subsurface lithology. This is conducted using a combination of the static weight of a direct push rig, hydraulic down pressure, and rapid hydraulic hammering or augering. For some direct push instrumentation, such as Cone Penetration Testing (CPTu), rapid hydraulic hammering is not used.

The PowerProbe Direct push rigs can perform a wide variety of environmental drilling activities, including:

  • Soil Sampling
  • Groundwater sampling
  • Soil-gas sampling
  • Groundwater monitoring well installation with prepack screens
  • Remedial injection activities
  • Standard Penetration testing (SPT)
  • Cone penetration testing (CPTu)
  • Installation of (contaminant) sensors
  • Geotechnical sampling and testing.
  • Hollow stem augering

Direct push generates significantly less drill cuttings than conventional drilling methods. Drilling labor is typically only one or two site personnel. The mobility and directional drilling capabilities (angle borings) of PowerProbe rigs allow quicker sampling and data collection, reducing the time needed to complete an investigation by nearly 50 percent and increasing the number of sample points that can be collected during a subsurface investigation. Compared to conventional drilling activities, direct push is less labor intensive, quicker setup time, and easier to decontaminate.
